2012 Summer Camps


Camp 1 - Explosive Skating / Edge Work

Description: This camp is intended to get players out of their comfort zones when it comes to skating.  Quick starts, long strides, turns, cross-overs, forward and backward transitions, and balance are among the skills that will be taught and practiced.  Both under speed and over speed drills will be run, helping players gain confidence before they crank it up.

 

Dates: June 18-21, and June 25-28
Time:  
5:30-7:45 PM

2 hours / day (1.25 hours on-ice, 45 minutes dryland)

Camp 2 - Defensemen Skills / Agility

Description: This camp focuses on defensive skills and tactics, as well as the purpose behind certain decisions.  Both offensive and defensive zone skills will be discussed and practiced.  This camp is obviously great for all defensemen, but all players can benefit from learning what, and why, their defensive teammates are doing what they're doing.  Because defensemen are consistently transitioning, and need to do so efficiently and effectively, agility and edge work will be a big focus.

Dates: July 16-19, July 23-26
Time: 5:30-7:45 PM
Duration: 2 hours / day (1.25 hour on-ice, 45 minutes dryland)

Camp 3 - Goal Scoring / Shooting

Description: This camp will make every player a bigger offensive threat.  By knowing when, and how, to shoot in different situations players will create more chances for themselves - resulting in more goals.  Players will learn where the prime scoring areas are, how to get there, and what to do when they get there.

 

Dates: July 30-August 2, August 6-9

Camp 4 - Introduction to Checking/Body Contact Clinic

Description: Hockey is a contact sport - there WILL be contact made between players during the course of a game or practice.  The purpose of this clinic is to introduce young players to the art of checking and body contact, so that they can be as safe as possible during a game of ice hockey.  The HOW, WHEN, and WHY of receiving and delivering a proper body check will be taught and practiced.  Other related skills will include proper body positioning, balance and angling.

Dates: August 13-17
Time: 5:30-6:30 PM
Duration: 1 hour / day (1 hour on-ice)
Total Days: 5

Levels: PeeWee/U12, Bantam/U14

Camp 5 - Basic Skills Clinic

Description: This Basic Skills Clinic is designed to teach kids the basic hockey skills, that are the foundation for future skill development.  Each group will have 45 minutes of on-ice, and 45 minutes of off-ce training, Monday through Friday.  Players will work on skating technique, edges, balance, shooting, passing, and puck control.

Times:   5:45-7:45 PM
Duration: 1 hour 45 minutes / day (1 hour on-ice, 45 minutes dryland)

7.5 hours
Levels: Mite/U8 and Squirt/U10
